The new directors will officially take control of the organization at the conclusion of the OUCH Convention.

In order to stagger the terms so that no more than half of the directors would be potentially leaving the Board during any election, the terms of service were divided as follows:

Applications are now open for the OUCH Board of Directors

OUCH is recruiting applicants for Board of Director (BoD) members to serve a one or two year term to begin effective the July 2008 Convention in Dallas.
 
OVERVIEW:
OUCH is a national nonprofit organization and is a legal entity accountable by law for its actions, finance and operations within the scope of its Charter. The OUCH Board of Directors is the highest authority and the controlling level of the operations of OUCH. It provides the direction, goals and oversight of all activities, functions and legal affairs of OUCH.
 
In order to gain recognition and funding for our causes, it is important that the OUCH Board of Directors be viewed as competitive with other national health organizations. In order to accomplish this and fulfill the obligations outlined in the OVERVIEW, we will be recruiting professionals with supervisory and management backgrounds and with specific experience and skill sets. Newly elected directors will also complete training related to serving on a non-profit Board of Directors, Mission of the Organization, Organizational Structure and Policies and Procedures and will participate in future training as it is developed.
 
Individuals interested in being considered will need to complete the Director Candidate Application Form located in the Volunteer Center of the Members’ Area on the OUCH website.

The Nominating Committee will review all applicants’ information, conduct interviews of qualified candidates and submit those with the necessary experience, skills and time to commit to the membership for election to the Board of Directors.
 
It is highly desirable that those elected should be available to attend the Convention this year and each year they are in office. The Convention is the official Annual Business Meeting of OUCH and the primary source of training for the Board and Committee Chairs.

• Michael Berger and Pete Batcheller have resigned from their positions on the Board of Directors and all committees, citing personal and work related changes that would preclude them from giving their positions at OUCH the full attention they deserve. We certainly understand that "real life" and family come first and wish them well.
  
  Tony Amabile has resigned from his position on the Board of Directors and all committees, citing health issues that would hinder his effectiveness at OUCH. We hope that Tony can get his issues resolved and get back to full health soon.
  
  We thank all three departing members for their hard work and dedicated service to OUCH and wish them well in whatever the future holds for them.

• The Budget Committee now consists of Brian Nemhauser (chair), Jean French, and Mike Day.

• The Funds Raising Committee is now staffed by Michelle Adamson.

Voting Cycle Changes

10/13/2007     At the Members Meeting of the 2007 OUCH Annual Convention in Richmond, Virginia, the members in attendance were asked to consider and approve a measure to move the election cycle to coincide with the Annual Convention. Elections would occur in May and the first meeting of the new Board of Directors would take place at the convention where the outgoing officers and directors will pass the baton to the newly elected. This would allow for initiation and orientation of the new officers, directors and committee members at the convention. The new leadership would be presented to the membership at the annual members’ meeting. The measure is also expected to help address a problem of low BoD output between October and the holiday season. The members in attendance approved the measure unanimously.

Mike Day has returned to the OUCH Board of Directors.

There is a Proposed Settlement with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), one of the Defendants in a class action lawsuit pending in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. The name of the lawsuit is In re: Pharmaceutical Average Wholesale Price Litigation, Docket No. 01-CV-12257-PBS, MDL No. 1456.
